All the kids would have played with Lego building blocks, one of the popular toys, that kids usually grows up with. Lego blocks are a well known toys associated with the global educational toy industry. It was in 1932 that Lego Company set itself up modestly in Denmark, manufacturing wooden toy blocks. In 1947 the company began manufacturing interlocking plastic blocks which became instantly popular. These blocks sustained its popularity, both with the kids and the adults.

In the Lego blocks, all the blocks interlock with one another. This may be both intriguing and surprising to you. In fact, a block that you may have back from the sixties will work just fine with a current set. It fits well. Similarly, a block from a set that is made for a young child interlocks with a block made for a teenager which is an advanced set.

Lego blocks come with a variety of themes. All these are available in the market. There is the simple fireman/policeman themes meant for small children. There are also the ones for older children which are much more sophisticated. These sets have little figures of people. These snap onto the Lego blocks. The kit contains blocks required to complete putting together of a space station or a castle. The set can interlock with all other themed sets.

Lego has introduced thousands of themed Lego block sets. They have a particular style of operation. They are modern and incorporate whatever are the latest interesting developments into their themes. This includes Spiderman, Squarepants, Spongebob, Star Wars and Harry Potter.

The imagination of the child is fired with the themed Lego blocks. This is the reason why it is a marvelous educational toy. The manual agility and the coordination of eye and hand are strengthened with the Lego blocks. The toy blocks also teach them concepts such as balance and gravity. The sets meant for older kids teach them to read and also pursue instructions. These enable them to learn how to make complex arrangements as well as robotic creatures.

Lego blocks are great gifts to children. The children take pleasure in playing with them and building them. Gifting Lego also means that you have a wide variety of themes and numerous types of building sets to choose from in the market.

Lego also has the specialized lines of building blocks and Lego Mindstorms is one of them. These are meant for advanced users as the teenagers. Even adults can play this.
